Some years ago we could read things like this:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/1565094.stm
"...We must be the best ally of the United States between Russia and the Germans! That is Poland's raison d'état, because thanks to this neither Russia nor the Germans will be able to dominate Europe," wrote one of the party leaders, Antoni Macierowicz, in a recent newspaper article."

For the missile defense, let this 2006 foreign affairs article clear up the issue.
http://www.foreignaffairs.org/20060301faessay85204/keir-a-lieber-daryl-g-press/the-rise-of-u-s-nuclear-primacy.html
"The current and future U.S. nuclear force, in other words, seems designed to carry out a preemptive disarming strike against Russia or China."

"…the sort of missile defenses that the United States might plausibly deploy would be valuable primarily in an offensive context, not a defensive one — as an adjunct to a U.S. first-strike capability."

To avoid such a preemptive nuclear strike, Russia needs to develop a credible capability to hit the Polish and Czech sites before American missiles reach Russia in case of an attack. There is no second chance here so a Russian strike against Poland and Czechoslovakia will likely be very hard.

If some wants to make themselves nuclear targets for no good purpose, fine, but please, not in my neighbourhood.

Pipelines is _the_ geopolitical infrastructure of ...

Pipelines is _the_ geopolitical infrastructure of russia, beside military assets, of course they wont build new ones on NATO soil if it can be avoided.

US missiles in Poland.. As you mention, Donald Tusk has made more demands of the United States than the previous government did in order to move forward with the missile defense sites.

Here is something I ask:

“I wonder if Poland's harder line signals the death of Rumsfeld’s unequivocally pro-American "New Europe"? The US appears willing to entertain Polish demands for now, with a Pentagon spokesman stating, "Because of [Poland's special relationship with the U.S.], we believe that we can overcome whatever differences may exist on this issue very quickly." However, there is definitely a notable reticence to back US missile defense plans from the new Polish government that was not found in its predecessor.”

http://www.atlanticreview.org/archives/969-Euro-Missile-Talks-Are-Back,-Leaving-New-Europe-Behind.html#comments
